Did you know there's something simple you can do every day that will make you feel better in general? This sounds like the key to life, but it's actually quite easy - and most of us are already doing it: it's physical activity!  Even small amounts of physical activity can help in many areas of daily life. Many people are unaware that physical activity is not only good for physical health but also for mental well-being. There are many benefits, such as stress reduction, natural energy boosts, increased focus and motivation, a healthier appetite, and, of course, better overall mental and physical health!

Don't worry if sports aren't your thing at all - you don't have to be a pro athlete to benefit from physical activity. You can be physically active in many ways, simply by doing anything that gets your body moving. This could be as small as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or as big as joining a sports team. There are plenty of small decisions you can make to increase your daily physical activity without exactly doing sports. For example, choosing to walk or cycle instead of driving every day can boost your physical activity. Also, activities you enjoy like swimming, dancing, running, and even walking can be a great way to increase your physical activity level by doing something you love.

Exercise has been proven to produce what are known as “happiness chemicals”. It increases the production of endorphins, the brain's feel-good chemicals. They can relieve pain, reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance your sense of well-being. Additionally, exercise decreases the number of stress receptors in the hippocampus, which helps minimize the effect of stress hormones on the brain, reducing the impact of stressful experiences. Exercise also increases blood circulation in the brain, ensuring that essential nutrients reach the brain and supporting functions such as memory.

As you can see, exercise isn't just about building a strong body, it's also about building a strong mind. The connection between physical activity and mental health is undeniable. Whether it's the release of endorphins, the reduction of stress hormones, or the ability to better get to know ourselves and others, physical activity has the capacity to change our mental health for the better.  In a world where mental health problems are on the rise, the movement offers us a simple, accessible, and transformative solution. So, we should prioritize our mental health through movement, because when we take care of our bodies, we also take care of our minds.
